Instructor Tips !!!

  • Always Show up on time or a little early
  • Please call the student ahead of time if you know that you are running late
  • Communication is very important !
    • Classroom Instructors are reminded to communicate thoroughly with the students
    • During Classroom sessions
    • Before Scheduling
    • During Scheduling time
    • While filling out Reminder Cards for the driving lesson times
    • Behind the Wheel Instructors should communicate with students on their schedule
  • Be friendly, polite, courteous and kind
  • Introduce yourself to the students, even if you already know them
  • Introduce each student to everyone in the vehicle,

even if the students already know each other

  • Tell the students what the " game plan " or the agenda will be
    • Discuss the lesson number and the skills that you plan on covering
    • Ask the students which skills they already covered
    • Ask the students which skills they are eager to learn
    • Let the students know who will drive first or second
    • Let the students know which towns they will be driving through
    • Remind everyone the pick up and drop off order –

which student will be dropped off first, second, third …

Explain if other students will be picked up during or after the lesson.

    • Recommended break locations or ask if anyone has suggestions
    • Take breaks at locations that are agreeable to everyone
  • Driving School Classroom
  • Gas Station / Restaurants
  • Amoco / Mc Donald’s, Moblie / Culver’s
  • Convenience stores
  • Do not take a break at your house or anyone’s residence
  • Do not take breaks at restaurants with waitresses
  • Do not take breaks at public stores, such as, grocery stores, department stores, best buy, strip malls or shopping malls…
  • You may stop at any location to take a break if it is an emergency situation or if you need to take care of a driving school / driver’s education problem. These situations are fine:
  • Picking up a car part or accessory items
  • Driving through a car wash
  • Dropping off a check or payroll
  • Picking up a class file or information
  • Keep the Driving Lesson Positive ! Use a Positive Approach. Do not use negative approaches
  • Stay Calm, Be prepared, Give good tips
  • Remind the students what they are doing correctly
  • Give ample amounts of positive complements !
  • Do not raise your voice, use bad language, or call the students names
  • Feel free to use constructive criticism & suggest areas of improvement

 

 

Instructor Responsibilities:

  • Visit Car Washes often to keep car cleaned on the outside: Wash off road-salt, dirt, dust & tar…
  • Vacume the inside of the car regularly and remove garbage daily.
  • Clean off bugs from the front bumper and the top sign on the roof each time you refill at gas stations.
  • Oil Changes are to be performed every 3000 miles!
  • Visit the Safety Lane early, before the 6th month sticker expires.
  • Report car or maintenance problems.
  • Do not keep gas in containers inside your car or trunk.
