  • Take attendance.
  • Cover any of the unfinished chapter information from the previous days, chapters # 1, 14 & 5… answer any questions regarding basic skills of driving or basic parts of the car, or responsibilities & conditions of the driver or forces of impact.

Recommended Information for Instructors:

Instructors may want to consider switching the two parts of Lesson Plan # 7.
You may find it easier to pass out the quiz during the first part of the class. During the second part of the class, you may want to cover chapter # 15, instead. This process may make the class lesson, run a little smoother.

When the students arrive, you may want to give the students a few minutes to review their notes. Then you can pass out the quiz. When they are finished with the quiz, they can turn in their quiz in a pile in front of the room. After they are finished with the quiz, you can have the students pick up a follow up activity. Have the students start on the chapter # 15 activity, Alcohol, Other Drugs and Driving. Giving the students a follow up activity will allow everyone in the class to be working on either a quiz or a follow up activity.

Part I Chapter # 15, Alcohol, Drugs & Driving / DUI

Required Activity:

  • Activity # 1: Alcohol, Other Drugs, and Driving – Word Search

Follow up Activity:

  • Have the students read & review chapter # 15, from the Drive Right Textbook.
    • Cover pages 314 - 330.
    • Go over questions & answers from Reviewing Chapter Objectives on page 331. Questions # 1 – 14
    • Discuss questions from the chapter test on page 332, # 1 – 13.
    • Review the Decision Making Questions on Page 333, # 1 – 4.

  • GO OVER HOMEWORK / Class ASSIGNMENTS
  • Car Crash Articles (Accident Articles)
  • DUI Articles
  • DUI Presentations

* For the DUI Presentations: You can decide to pass out material on Drugs & Alcohol. Or you may have the students research their own articles, regarding the effects of Alcohol or Drugs. Give the students time to research the information. You may elect to have the students give individual presentations or you may elect to have the students get into groups to present the information. If there is research involved, you might want to give the student at least a few days ahead of time, to gather their information. Also, allow some class time for students to discuss their ideas & information. Remember this is an optional activity. Students enjoy researching & preparing presentations for class. Also, you can tell students that they will receive extra bonus points if they spend extra time on the activity. The way that you can reward the students: If the students make posterboards, charts, graphs, mak videos, bring in pictures or excessive amounts of research.

Class Participation Activity:

Have one or two students volunteer to wear the drunk busters goggles. If a student puts on the goggles, they can simulate the experience of feeling drunk. Have the student or students, perform a few activities to show the rest of the class that they are sober. Have the students touch their noses, stand on one foot, walk a line of tape on the floor, pick up objects or pick up change. Ect…

Then, have the students put on the drunk goggles and attempt to perform the same types of maneuvers, in front of the class. Afterwards, you may invite each row of students to come up and attempt to walk the line or pick up objects with the drunk goggles on ! See Ed Pudlo, Jr. if you need additional instructions or information.

Other Suggested Follow-Up Activities:

  • Chapter 15: Scrambled Words
  • What Can Be Done
  • Dealing With Peer Pressure Activities
  • The High Price of a DUI
