Welcome
Introductions of todays topics & material that the students will be covering.
Explain the lesson agenda & what you will be covering in class. Explain what you
will be covering in Part 1 & Part 2.
Take attendance.
- Cover any of the unfinished chapter information from the previous days, chapters # 1
& 14
answer any questions regarding basic skills of driving or basic parts of
the car, or responsibilities & conditions of the driver.
Required Activity:
- Natural Laws & Car Control, Chapter 5 - Scramble
- Pass out the Activity, Natural Laws & Car Control? , Chapter 5 -
Scramble
Have students work on the activity, individually. Remind the students to
do a good job on this "starter activity" Let them know that the activity will
need to be turned in, later in the class. Remind the students that they will get similar
"starter activities" when they arrive, each day in class. This comment will
prepare the students to do a good job on the starter activities & it will let them
know that you will be collecting the activities, as well.
Follow up Activity:
- Have the students read & review chapter # 5, from the Drive Right
Textbook.
- Cover pages 92 - 104.
- Go over questions & answers from Reviewing Chapter Objectives on page
105. Questions # 1 13
- Discuss questions from the chapter test on page 106, # 1 13.
- Review the Decision Making Questions on Page 107, # 1 4.
- GO OVER HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
- Car Crash Articles (Accident Articles)
- DUI Articles
- Pick a Picture
- Dangerous Intersections
SEE SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION IN THE LESSON PLAN BINDER,

- Feel Free to show any of the videos, that you did not
already, show from Class # 3, 4 or 5,
- Avoiding Collisions 16 minutes
- Car Crash Videos ( SHOW DURING BREAK TIME )

time allows !

- See the Smith System, 7 Day Lesson Plan
Read / Discuss & Review all Five Keys and all of the components.
Remind the students that they will have to memorize all five keys &
all of the components. This set of notes will be helpful in order to pass the smith system
quiz on day # 7.
- Some good, easy, simple Mnemonic memory devices
that are helpful to remember the smith system:
- All Five Keys are in alphabetical order - AGKLM
- All Good Kids Like Milk
- All Good Kids Like Movies
- All Good Kids Love Mom
- Pass out Notes: 16 Points to Remember
- Read / Discuss the 16 Points.
- Discuss the importance of each Point !
- Remind the students that they will be required to remember each point
& all of the components of each point.
- Show Video: Smith System A Better Way, 39 minutes.
- Activity: Five Keys to Space Cushion Driving, The Smith System Pre-Quiz
Review & Discuss Answers.
- Remind the students to study for the quiz:
Have the students study the following activities:
- 5 Keys of the Smith System
- 16 Points to Remember
- Some Symptoms of Poor Driving Habits
- Five Keys to Space Cushion Driving, Pre-Quiz Activity
Answers on the quiz and on the mid-term test will need to
be written down with a smith system answer.
The answers must include keys from the smith system.
