Classroom Instructor Tips:
SEE ATTENDANCE TIPS, FOR COMPLETING THE ATTENDANCE FORM, CORRECTLY.
- Report Card Requirements. Students must turn in a blue form, yellow form, pink form, GED Letter, or the last two semesters of report cards. Review the requirements of completion.
- Explain to the students that our drivers education program will require all of the permit information necessary to file for a certificate of completion.
- Tell the students to be prepared to fill out yellow cards, to submit their permit information to the Illinois Office of the Secretary of State.
- Review & complete the Yellow card process with the class, once the students have received their permits.
SEE YELLOW CARD INSTRUCTIONS, in the lesson plan binder, under Lesson # 10.
- Explain Attendance & make up classes. Also explain the make up class schedule of dates and times available for any student who misses a class. Inform the students that any student who misses more than FOUR classes will be dropped from the course & will need to re-enroll.
- Explain the payment procedures.
- Have the students write down all necessary phone numbers for our program. Have the students write down our office phone number, the classroom phone number and the emergency numbers that students can use in order to contact their driving instructor in case of an emergency situation. Include the local phone number of our driving school office and the phone number to the instructors cell phone number.
- Explain the proper procedure to schedule driving lessons.
- Remind the students to keep a block of at least 3 hours for each of their four driving lessons.
- Explain the time frame that will be involved for each lesson. Each lesson is approximately 3 hours long. Students will drive for an HOUR AND A HALF and they will also observe for an HOUR AND A HALF. Sometimes it is a little longer, sometimes it is a little shorter. It depends on the other students schedules during the lesson & the location of other observers.
- If any student has any requests, submit the information directly to the office or to the instructor, RIGHT AWAY. ALSO, remind the student to tell the instructor when they get into the vehicle for the lesson about any special, important information. Remind the students to tell the instructors if they have to be dropped off at a specific time, location, work, school, or at another parents or guardians house Tell the students to limit their requests and to be flexible with the instructors schedules and the other schedules of the other students in the car.
- Explain what the students need to bring on each lesson: Driving Permit, warm clothes, extra money if they want to get drinks or snacks
- Explain the skills that will be covered on each lesson.
- Explain the required drivers license test skills that will be covered in the classroom & in the car: The Uphill & Down Hill Parking Skills, The Three-Point Turn, Parking & Backing
- Explain the expectations of the students in the car, during the BTW Lessons.
- Explain the no show policy and explain the no show forms that need to be completed if any student cancels or misses a driving lesson.
- Explain the no show fees that will be applied if a student cancels within 24 hours.
- Explain the behavior & classroom rules. Tell the students what should be expected of their behavior in the classroom & during their BTW Sessions. Remind the students not to leave wrappers, crumbs, garbage in the classroom or drivers education cars. Students who cannot keep the classroom or cars clean will not be allowed to bring snacks, drinks, or materials with them in the class or cars.
- Explain to the students that disorderly conduct is also not allowed in or around the buildings of the classroom. Respect our neighbors. Remind the students to be quiet and polite to anyone near or around the building of the classroom. No smoking, loitering, littering, loud noise, running, or inappropriate behavior will be allowed in or around the building. Northwest Suburban Driving School will enforce these rules.
- Instructors need to make sure that the classrooms are clean, neat and orderly. Have the classroom students help push in chairs, and also have the students pick up papers, small items or garbage from the tables & floors. Organize the classroom so the room will be neat and orderly and ready for the next class session ! After each class session, make sure the floors are cleaned, tables are organized and lined up and chairs are pushed in and lined up nicely next to the tables.
- Keep your materials & files neat and organized. Do not leave tests, quizzes, activities, answer keys or class materials laying around the classroom. Do not develop piles of materials in the classroom. Return any used or unused files to the file cabinet when finished with the material.
Contact the office if you would like additional bins or file holders to store your excess materials.
- Please contact the office immediately if you have a student who is causing problems or being disruptive in the classroom. Students are not allowed to hinder the learning process of a class or any other student. Give the students options on what they can do to improve their classroom performance. Remember it is your classroom, not theirs !
- After completion of the whole drivers education course session, have all of the students materials ready for the main office to process. This information includes the official attendance form and all of the students quizzes, tests, waiver forms, report cards, eligibility forms and yellow cards.
